For those who did not participate in the thematic stargazing trip organized by the Management Body of Ainos National Park in July, they have a second chance! On Friday, August 21, 2020, the Management Body of the Ainos National Park in collaboration with amateur astronomers of Kefalonia (Mr. Konstantinos Stavropoulos & Mr. Dionysios Petinatos), invite you to the main entrance of the Ainos National Park for a night of stargazing and navigation in the sky. Arrival time at the place until 21:30. We ask those who come to park their cars on the road on either side of the entrance of the National Park.
The Management Body of Ainos National Park has started an effort to declare Ainos National Park as an “International Dark Sky Park”. A “Dark Sky International Park” is an area that has an exceptional and / or distinguished quality of night sky and a night environment that is specially protected for scientific, natural, educational, cultural heritage and recreation. It will be the first Dark Sky International Park to be declared in Greece.
The Ainos National Park has all the criteria and conditions required for its proclamation as an “International Dark Sky Park”, as it has in addition to the valuable natural heritage the Kefallinian Research Foundation “Eudoxos” with its observatory, A Management Body may conduct environmental education / information programs on the problem of light pollution and related stargazing activities within the National Park.
During the event, both the organizers and the participants will follow all the measures to stop the spread of CoVid-19 virus. The use of a mask during the event is mandatory!
