A strong earthquake , measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale, occurred in a sea area off Zakynthos.
The quake struck at 2 a.m., according to the Athens Geodynamic Institute, and was centered 55 kilometers west of Strofades. Its focal depth was measured at 6.8 km and was felt in the Ionian, but also in the western Peloponnese and Achaia.
The quake was initially rated at 5.2 on the Richter scale by the Institute, which later revised it to 5.4 on the Richter scale.
The main quake was followed by a 2.7 magnitude earthquake.
