Emergency bulletin of dangerous phenomena from the EMY – Winter with strong storms and snow from tomorrow

The National Meteorological Service has issued an emergency bulletin of Dangerous Weather Phenomena for the bad weather that is expected to “hit” our country from tomorrow, Wednesday (25/1).

According to the EMY “a new worsening of the weather with locally dangerous phenomena is predicted from the late afternoon of Wednesday (25-01-2023) until Friday (27-01-2023) with heavy rains and storms initially in the west, central and south that will gradually expand to the northeast. Snowfall will occur in the continental highlands as well as in the central and northern semi-mountains .

The winds on the seas will be strong and will locally reach 8 to 9 Beaufort and the temperature will drop mainly in the central and northern areas (of the order of 5 to 6 degrees Celsius)”.

Meteorologists are sounding the alarm , while Civil Protection has warned citizens with relevant instructions to remain on the lookout until this new wave of bad weather that is coming to recede.

On Wednesday (25-01-2023)

Heavy rains and storms are predicted:

  • from the late afternoon in the Ionian islands (mainly in Zakynthos, Kefallonia, Lefkada and Ithaca),
    the northwestern Peloponnese, western Sterea and from the night in Epirus.
  • Snowfall will occur in the continental mountains, which from the evening will be dense in places in
    western Macedonia, in the mountainous and semi-mountainous areas (indicative altitude of 800 meters and above) of Epirus, western
    and central Sterea, central Macedonia (in the west parts) and Thessaly (in the western and northern parts).
  • Winds will locally reach the Ionian at 8 to 9 Beaufort.

Heavy rains and storms are predicted:

a) until noon in the Ionian Islands, Epirus, western Sterea and western Peloponnese
b) from the morning hours in the eastern Peloponnese and gradually in eastern Sterea (including Attica),
Evia, Thessaly and the Sporades. From the late afternoon and from the west the phenomena will weaken
c) from the afternoon in the Cyclades, Central Macedonia, eastern Macedonia and from the evening in Thrace and the islands of the eastern Aegean.
Snowfall will occur in the continental mountains, which will be dense in places (with an indicative altitude
of 600 meters and above), in western Macedonia, Epirus, western and central Sterea, Evia, Thessaly,
central and eastern Macedonia. Heavy snowfall will occur in Thrace (indicative altitude of 400 meters and
above).
The winds will locally reach the Aegean at 8 to 9 Beaufort.
On Friday (27-01-2023)

Heavy rains and storms are predicted:

  • in Thrace, the islands of the eastern Aegean, the eastern Cyclades and the Dodecanese which will be
    limited to the southeast from the afternoon.
  • Snowfall will occur in the continental mountains, which in the morning hours will be dense
    in places in the mountains and semi-mountains of eastern Macedonia and Thrace (indicative altitude of 400 meters and above)with a gradual decline of the phenomena.
  • The winds will locally reach the eastern Aegean at 8 to 9 Beaufort with gradual weakening.
