A total of (53) people were arrested for various offenses while applying the police measures in the tourist areas of the Ionian Islands
The arrests included, but were not limited to, possession and trafficking of narcotics, violations of the Road Traffic Code, laws relating to the operation of health shops, theft and other offenses.
In addition, four-wheeled vehicles were stopped and quantities of drugs and other objects seized.
Integrated policing measures for the tourist areas of the Ionian Islands in the current summer season are in full swing.
In particular, the measures implemented are based on the apparent policing of areas with increased traffic, the day-to-day inspections by specialized police departments to ensure compliance with the laws on the operation of health-care shops and the prevention of traffic accidents.
In this context, systematic checks were carried out over the last 24 hours, with particular intensity, in Corfu, Zakynthos, Kefalonia and Lefkada resulting in the arrest of a total of (53) persons, of whom (11) in Kefalonia, (16) in Corfu , (3) in Lefkada and (23) in Zakynthos.
Specifically, (79) police and (36) vehicles were provided for the inspections, and a total of (488) vehicles and (661)persons were inspected .
The checks summarized ( 53) arrests ( 31 nationals and 22 foreign nationals) and identified (230) infringements of the Road Traffic Code and (10) health violations.
Indicative of the arrests are:
(22) for deprivation of a driving license,
(4) for noise pollution,
(6) for trade,
(1) for breach of store opening hours,
(5) for violation of the Law on Drugs,
(5) for theft
In addition to the established Traffic Code violations identified are (6) for intoxication, (27) for speed, (11) for seat belt, (35) for protective helmet, (19) for driving license deprivation and (118) for other administrative penalties.
Finally, (27.2) grams of raw cannabis, (10.6) grams of cocaine, (1) gallop and (129) merchandise were seized.
It is also noted that in the context of the intensification of traffic accident prevention measures, a total of four four-wheelers (hogs) were stopped in Zakynthos for violations involving dangerous driving, non-use of helmet and driving under the influence.
The services of the Ionian Islands Regional Police Directorate General will be evaluated and updated in order to ensure their maximum effectiveness.
