The August full moon is known as the Sturgeon Moon. It has received this name from the Native Americans. To be precise, in ancient times peoples did not divide time into months, but on the basis of full moons. The moons were named according to the agricultural work or activities associated with that period.
The full moon of Augustus, therefore, was named the Sturgeon Moon because at that time the Native Americans were fishing for this particular fish, also known as Moruna.
