Bad weather imminent with hail stones larger then 2cm forecast in Kefalonia and other Ionian islands!

The weather is getting worse from this morning. The main characteristics of the “express” bad weather , according to EMY, will be the locally heavy rains and storms, but also the stormy winds that will reach up to 8 Beaufort.

As early as Thursday, the National Meteorological Service has issued an emergency bulletin of deterioration of the weather for Friday (3/12) and Saturday (4/12) in order to take all necessary measures by municipalities and regions to prevent floods.

Where will the bad weather hit
According to the emergency bulletin of EMY, heavy rains and thunderstorms will occur:

a. From the morning hours of Friday until noon on Saturday in the Ionian Islands, Epirus, Western Sterea and Western Peloponnese. b. From the afternoon hours of Friday to the morning hours of Saturday in Eastern Macedonia, Thrace and possibly temporarily in central Macedonia. c. From the afternoon hours of Friday until Saturday night in the islands of the Eastern Aegean and the Dodecanese. d. From Friday night to Saturday night in the Cyclades and Crete.

At the same time, stormy south winds that will reach 8 Beaufort in the seas will blow today, Friday, which will gradually turn to north on Saturday and will weaken.

Meteo: Unstable weather with thunderstorms and hail
According to the forecast data of the National Observatory of Athens /, rains and thunderstorms are expected to occur on Friday, December 3 , initially in the western and island parts of the Aegean, and until nightfall in many parts of the country. The effects will be locally intense and in some cases will be accompanied by hail.

The most significant hailstorms are estimated to occur in Western Greece, in island parts of the Eastern and Northeastern Aegean and possibly in areas of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace. In fact, in the Ionian Islands and the western continents hail may be relatively large locally.

Local rains and, in the evening mainly sporadic thunderstorms, we expect in Attica and the city of Athens, phenomena that will continue from time to time until noon on Saturday.

In the forecast maps that follow for the intervals 14:00 – 17:00 and 17:00 – 20:00, the areas where rain or thunderstorms will occur are depicted in blue-green shades and the areas where the highest probability of occurrence is located are marked with symbols. hailstorms.

The black dots represent hail with sizes up to 2 cm, the red triangles represent hail with sizes larger than 2 cm, while the white dots indicate where large amounts of hail are expected.
