According to the Extraordinary Bulletin of Dangerous Weather Phenomena issued today, Monday, October 26, 2020 by the National Meteorological Service (EMY ), a change in the weather is forecast from late Tuesday night (27-10-20) and from the west – southwest . Bad weather will prevail on Wednesday (28-10-20 day of the National Holiday) in most parts of the country with heavy rains and thunderstorms in places accompanied by hail and strong winds.

More specifically, the following will be affected:

1. From late Tuesday night (27-10-20) the Ionian , mainly the islands of the Central and Southern Ionian and probably the southern parts of the Peloponnese .

2. From the first hours of Wednesday (28-10-20 National Holiday) the Peloponnese , Crete , gradually Central Greece ( including Attica ) and Evia . From noon Thessaly , the Sporades, the southern parts of Epirus and the Cyclades . From the afternoon the Dodecanese and the islands of the Northeast Aegean . From the evening hours, Central and Eastern Macedonia and Thrace .

Gradual weakening of the phenomena is expected, from Wednesday afternoon in the Ionian Islands and the western mainland, from the first hours of Thursday in the central and southern continents and Crete and from the afternoon of Thursday (29-10-20) and other areas.

In particular, in areas where heavy rainfall, thunderstorms or stormy winds are forecast :

  • Insure items that, if swept away by severe weather, could cause damage or injury.
  • Make sure that the gutters and gutters of the houses are not blocked and are operating normally.
  • Avoid crossing torrents and streams, on foot or by vehicle, during storms and rainfall, but also for several hours after the end of their event 
  • Avoid field work and activities in the sea and coastal areas during severe weather (risk of lightning strikes).
  • Take immediate precautions during a hailstorm. Take refuge in a building or car and do not leave the safe area until they are sure that the storm is over. Hail can also be very dangerous for animals.
  • Avoid passing under large trees, under hanging signs and generally in areas where light objects (eg pots, broken glass, etc.) can come off and fall to the ground (eg under balconies). .
