Coronavirus: ECDC puts Crete & Ionian islands in “deep red”

The coronavirus is here, despite our hope and need for a carefree vacation. This is reflected in the number of cases announced by EODY on Thursday afternoon , as well as in the revised map of the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control ( ECDC ).

In particular, the ECDC map showing the number of coronavirus test cases and the positivity index has Crete in “deep red”. In the “red”, however, are also Attica, the South Aegean, Thessaly, Epirus and the Ionian Islands.

It is noted that in the ECDC map that shows the positivity index of the coronavirus pandemic, our country presents a better picture as it is divided into “yellow” (1 – 3.9%) and “green” (below 1%). Also, in terms of tests, Greece is ranked in the “deep green”, which means that more than 5,000 tests are performed per 100,000 citizens.

It is recalled that on Thursday afternoon EODY announced that in the last 24 hours in the country were recorded 2,604 new cases and 5 deaths , while 126 are intubated. In addition, 34 regions of the country record double-digit cases .

219 new cases of the Delta mutation

Along with the new cases of coronavirus, on the afternoon of Thursday (22/7) the new data on the mutations were announced by EODY , with the Delta mutation causing concern. From the control of 359 samples, a total of 334 samples with mutant strains emerged and 21 samples with monitored strains. Of the 334 samples with strains of special interest, 219 concern the Delta mutation, 97 concern the Alpha, 16 concern the Beta and 2 concern the Gamma. Of the 21 samples with strains under monitoring, all relate to strain B.1.1.318 (Variant E484K).
