Repatriation of Greeks abroad who wish to return to Greece continues, as countries continue to ban flights to limit the transmission of coronavirus.
This complex repatriation operation was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of Greece in Rome, in co-operation with the Ministry of Maritime and Civil Protection Mechanisms. Nikos Dendia had also had a telephone conversation with his Italian counterpart, Luigi DiMaio.
Also on Sunday at 11:20 (local time) a special flight from Belgrade to Athens will take place for the return of Greek citizens. Flights with Greeks from Madrid, Barcelona, Prague, Tbilisi, Kiev are also due to depart for Athens, with the exception of Kiev, which is scheduled to land at Thessaloniki Airport.
The repatriation efforts are coordinated by the Foreign Ministry’s departments together with the Civil Protection Mechanism under Secretary of State Nikos Chardalia. To this end, Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias has been in close co-operation and constant contact with his counterparts in recent days to facilitate the return and repatriation of Greek citizens. It is recalled that upon arrival in Greece for all repatriated persons, the obligation of self-limitation (quarantine) for 14 days applies.
