Coronavirus: In the “red” and officially Thessaloniki, Halkidiki, Larissa and Kilkis – They enter a “mini lockdown”

Northern Greece is at the center of the attention of infectious disease specialists, whose epidemiological picture continues to be worrying, with experts taking immediate measures to stop the spread of the coronavirus .

At a time when the general picture of the pandemic in Greece is improved , since the positivity rate is reduced (1.01%) and the ratio of imports-exports to hospitals is stabilizing close to the unit, as announced yesterday by EODY, however the situation in the North Greece is causing particular concern to scientists, with ICUs being under constant pressure.

Northern Greece in the “red” – Intense concern for Thessaloniki and Larissa
In fact, in terms of prevalence, Thessaloniki still shows an increased number of cases , twice compared to that recorded by the central sector of Athens.

Close by is Larissa, which is the only area in the region that records a three-digit number of cases, with 122 infections.

Thus, the government and experts included Thessaloniki, Halkidiki, Kilkis and Larissa in level 4 epidemiological surveillance.

This means that in these areas a traffic ban is imposed from 1:00 at night until 6:00 in the morning, while music is prohibited 24 hours a day in entertainment stores (cafes, restaurants, etc.).

The epidemiological surveillance map
What was particularly important in the decision of the committee for the coronavirus is, in addition to the spread, the image in the ICUs of the hospitals of northern Greece, but also the low percentages of vaccination coverage in these areas.

We remind you that already Pella, Pieria, Imathia, Kastoria, Xanthi, Kavala and Drama have risen to epidemiological level and are under mini lockdown status.

Stricter measures: Unvaccinated only with a certificate or rapid in public services
At the same time the committee decided to toughen its stance against the citizens who insist on not being vaccinated, taking additional measures in order to avoid the recurrence of the nightmarish scenario we experienced last autumn.

Thus during Wednesday’s meeting the Infectious Diseases Committee decided that in all public services the vaccinated workers and the citizens will enter only with a certificate of illness or rapid test. This measure already applies to courts, hospitals, schools and universities.

Almost half of yesterday’s cases were children
Finally, the warnings of experts regarding the spread of the coronavirus in children are being verified, which now constitute almost 1 in 3 new cases.

Specifically, 29% of coronavirus cases in the last week concerned children aged 4-18, as announced by EODY.

On Tuesday, 1,002 of the 2,130 cases of coronavirus were in the 0 to 17 age group.

The increase in the rate of coronavirus cases in children 4-18 years old
As Maria Tsolia a member of the committee for coronavirus experts, stated last week in recent days new infections in children have reached 25% to 30% of the total number of cases reported daily.
