The mask will now be mandatory for the general population the day after the gradual lifting of the restrictive measures taken to control the spread of the new corona in the country.

This was announced during yesterday’s briefing by the representative of the Ministry of Health and professor of infectious diseases, Sotiris Tsiodras. According to the experts of the Committee of the Ministry, they suggested the mandatory use of a mask in public transport and busy indoor spaces, with the exception of the case of contraindications for medical reasons.

The mask is mandatory for both customers and employees
Sotiris Tsiodras noted that the mask will be mandatory in grocery stores, barbershops, hairdressers , beauty salons, both for customers and employees. The mask will be mandatory in both hospitals and diagnostic centers.

However, he reiterated that the main weapon against the transmission of the virus is proper hygiene and social distancing. So, he once again recommended paying attention to the illusion of protection that the use of a mask can give.

“This is an additional measure that aims to prevent the transmission of asymptomatic or pre-symptomatic patients,” he said. The latter are people who have been exposed to the coronavirus but have not yet developed symptoms. It is noted that often the symptoms of the virus require 3 to 5 days, from the moment the person was exposed to it, in order for them to appear. This period can be increased even to 14 days.

As Mr. Tsiodras had pointed out a few days ago, the mask should cover the nose and mouth , and its use should be accompanied by a commentary hand wash. It is also important to wash your hands after removing the mask from the person, which should be done from the back and in a specific way. If the mask is disposable, the citizen should safely dispose of it. If the mask is reusable, it should be washed as often as possible with the usual detergent at 60 degrees Celsius.

World Health Organization instructions for proper mask use
