A couple that had arrived in Greece form Germany broke the 14-day quarantine ordered by the authorities and had contact with a friendly couple. The effect: a pregnant woman, her husband and their 2-year-old child got contaminated with Covid-19.
The Greek couple, aged 25 and 26, had arrived from Germany via Austria. They did not keep the 14-day quarantine and socialized with another couple in Volos, Central Greece.
The two couples had reportedly visited together also another town, Kalambaka, in central Greece.
Both, the couple and the infected family have been hospitalized and their health condition is monitored. The woman in pregnant in the sixth month.
45 school children have been placed in home isolation and underwent Covid-19 tests.
The mayor shut down the Football Academy for preventive reasons.
Health authorities trace the contacts of the two couples also in Kalambaka.
The couple from Germany was tested positive after the pregnant woman got symptoms, was admitted to a hospital and was tested positive.
Until June 15, a 14-day quarantine is imposed on those arriving from abroad whether Greek or foreign nationals.
Those violating the quarantine are fined with 5,000 euros.
It looks as if the couple from Germany was not the only travelers who infected locals upon thei rarrival in Greece.
An 86-year-old man and his 30-year-old grandson have been tested positive in Lamia, Central Greece. They arrived from the USA ten days ago. Infected have been reportedly also the man’s wife and daughter. The senior is hospitalized. Authorities are tracing their contacts as the grandson had visited relatives and friends in the town of Atalanti.
