Effective from today tighter control measures at our airports


More stringent control measures are in place at EU airports tomorrow, based on the new European Regulation 458/2017, according to which all European citizens traveling to countries outside the Schengen Convention will be subject to passport and cross-check of identification data using database.

That is, European citizens who are members of Schengen countries will be required to undergo checks when traveling from or to countries outside Schengen.

With its announcement, Athens International Airport “El. Venizelos “, warns that due to the possible increased waiting time for the passport control, passengers traveling to countries that are not members of the Schengen Convention are kindly asked to:

– for their timely access to the checkpoints of the Hellenic Police, so that they have the necessary time available to reach the Departure Gate of their flight

– for the use of a Passport against the Identity Card, to speed control procedures.
