Extremely high fire risk (hazard class 4) for tomorrow Monday, July 01, 2019

Athens, 30 June 2019

According to the Fire Prevention Map issued by the General Secretariat for Civil Protection of the Ministry of Citizen Protection (www.civilprotection.gr) , a very high risk of fire (risk category 4) is foreseen for tomorrow Monday 01 July 2019 for the following areas:

– Region of Attica (including the island of Kythira)

– Region of Sterea Hellas (Viotia, Evia, Skyros)

– Region of the Peloponnese

– Region of Western Greece (Achaia, Ilia)

– Region of North Aegean (Lesvos, Chios)

The Civil Protection General Secretariat (www.civilprotection.gr) of the Ministry of Citizen Protection has informed the relevant state-owned agencies, as well as the Regions and Municipalities of the above areas, that they are in a high degree of civil protection preparedness to deal directly with episodes of fires.

At the same time, the General Secretariat for Civil Protection recommends that citizens be very careful and avoid acts of violence in the countryside that can cause a fire due to negligence such as burning dry grasses and branches or cleansing waste, the use of sparking equipment such as circular saws, , the use of outdoor grills, bee smoking, the burning of lit cigarettes, etc. Also, it is recalled that fire fighting is prohibited during the fire-fighting period.

In the event of a fire, citizens are kindly requested to immediately notify the Fire Service to the telephone number 199.
