Greek Prime Minister visits animal shelter to support stray animal day

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis paid a different visit to the shelter for homeless and abandoned animals in Ilioupoli on Saturday on the occasion of today’s World Day of Stray Animals.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis had the opportunity to meet the dogs that are hosted in the shelter, many of which are trained to be adopted.

The Prime Minister was also informed about the challenges faced by the officials and volunteers at the shelter, which is managed by the Zoophilic Association of Ilioupolis, and congratulated them for the love and care they provide to the animals.

“In view of the World Stray Day, I wanted to be with you, to thank you for the great work you are doing and to discuss, of course, the new bill for pets, which we will put to public consultation within the next 10 days. We will wait with great interest for your comments and I believe that it may have been voted by the end of May “, said Kyriakos Mitsotakis, talking to the former volunteer of the structure, Emy Papagiannopoulou, and the Mayor of Ilioupolis, George Hatzidakis.

The staff of the shelter noted that it is drafted with the provisions of the bill under preparation, which aims at solving multifaceted and chronic problems. He even asked the Prime Minister to insist, especially on the issue of sterilization.
