IKEA: Two new stores are set to open in Greece including (potentially) one near Patras

Important news about IKEA’s subsequent moves in Greece was yesterday’s conference call to brief Fourlis investors. The company that has been involved in the development of the Swedish chain in Greece said that more than 15% of IKEA sales in Greece are realized through the online store. At the same time, the CEO of the group, Mr. A. Petalas, mentioned about the creation of the first IKEA city.

IKEA in Patras and Crete

The start will come from neighboring Bulgaria – a country for which the Fourlis Group also has development rights – and specifically from the city of Varna. In Greece the new type store that is 5,000 to 7,000 sq.m. It is being considered for Crete as well as for Patras but so far the group has not found the right property. It is recalled that the first IKEA Planing Studio opened its doors about a year ago in London.

But beyond the “IKEA city”, Fourlis has taken the green light from its parent InterIkea to be among the first to try new formats experimenting with multinationals. This development is not a surprise as the “Greek” IKEA have recorded several firsts worldwide.

Shop in a Shop and theme shops

The new formats concern both the creation of a shop in a shop of other retailers within the large IKEA area, with the aim of increasing traffic, as well as the creation of thematic stores in the urban web of major cities. The latest version refers to small shops that will present themed collections of IKEA (accessories, decoration, kitchen items, etc.).
