Katerina Sakellaropoulou will be sworn in as President of the Republic on March 13th

Katerina Sakellaropoulou is the first woman to occupy the post of President of the Republic as she was elected today with 261 votes. At present, 33 Members of Parliament have stated this. The process began shortly after 10.30am.

Ms Sakellaropoulou, nominated by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, is the first woman to occupy the post but also the first to be accepted by three parliamentary parties. In fact, he was elected in the first ballot by far exceeding the required two-thirds majority of the House (200 votes), as provided for in the revised Article 32 of the Constitution.
