Kefalonia Earthquake – Five years have passed

It was Sunday, January 26, 2014 at 15:55 in the afternoon when panic prevails in Kefalonia after a strong earthquake of 5.9 degrees on the Richter scale, according to the Geodynamic Institute of the National Observatory of Athens, 8 km northeast of Lixouri and 6 km north of Argostoli.

The earth has not stopped trembling, and just three minutes after the severe earthquake, three powerful aftershocks followed, with a magnitude of 4.4, 3.9 and 4.2 degrees of the Richter scale. At 21.45 in the evening, there was a new strong earthquake, measuring 5.2 degrees on the Richter scale.

After about a week on 3 February, a new strong 5.8 point scale on the Richter scale was again on our island.

Kefalonia, however, has endured and fortunately we did not mourn victims.
