He notes that “the Fire Brigade is trying to replace staff who have completed more than 36 hours at the front of the fire, but is prepared to deal with whatever is happening, notably to spread the fire outside so as not to endanger potential settlements.” extension”.

The dangerous points that firefighters focus on
On the main front of the fire, the effort made by both the air and ground forces of the Fire Brigade is to control the outbursts located in a steep area near the LARCO quarries. Hundreds of tons of water have been dumped from planes and helicopters flying over the fire, but the front remains active as it is a solid pine-covered area.

Another point of particular importance for firefighters is east of the village of Stavros which to remind has been evacuated since yesterday. There are also significant resurgences there, but the presence of mainly airborne means allows firefighters to be optimistic about dealing with it.

What the General Secretaries of Civil Protection and the fire brigade are trying to do this night is to be able to control all the dangerous regional fronts and limit the fire. Their “opponent” in this endeavor is the increased wind intensity from noon onwards.

At the same time, the earthmoving machinery of both the Solidarity Region, the OTA Army and the LARCO remain on alert at various points to intervene when necessary. These heavy earthmoving machines helped keep the flames from reaching Pachna, as they set up the fireball around the city’s first houses in the night.

As far as disaster assessment is concerned, all stakeholders consider that it is too early to fully assess environmental disaster. They themselves talk of incalculable damage to a solid pine forest that was completely destroyed. The extent of the disaster is estimated to be more than 20,000 hectares, with Central Greek Governor Costas Bakoyannis estimating that more than 25,000 hectares have been burned, while the Evia Forest Director has spoken of 25,000 to 28,000 hectares.
