MP Kappatos Feedback from Meetings at the Ministry of Culture Regarding Building Infrastructure in Kefalonia

Yesterday, February 12, I was in Athens with the Vice- Mayor of Kefalonia and Ithaca Stavros Travlos , the Mayor of Argostoli Theofilos Michalatos and the Deputy Mayor of Argostoli Nikos Kourkoumeli .

We participated in a planned meeting with the Minister of Culture, Mr. Lina Mendoni, on issues of competence of the Ministry in our prefecture.

Regarding the Archaeological Museum of Argostoli it was found that it could not be repaired and that the demolition and reconstruction of the same site with the same architectural design, using the design-construction method, had been chosen as a solution.

After five years of the previous government’s inaction on this issue, there is now a concrete solution to its positive outcome.

The possibility of temporarily hosting the Archaeological Museum in another building in Argostoli was also discussed, as long as the reconstruction of the quarantine building is ongoing. The Minister pledged to allocate the necessary resources for this purpose if a suitable building is indicated.

For the Sami Archaeological Collection, the discussion focused on trying to operate it in the summer, as the interior has been completed and work is still on the outside. There was an exchange of views, constructive cooperation and a new meeting is expected for the Tomb of the Tzannata .

After the meeting at the Ministry of Culture, we went to Building Infrastructure SA, the responsible building body for public building infrastructure. There, they discussed the possibility of incorporating school buildings into current financing programs, for construction (Argostoli, Poros) and repair (Agia Thekli).

I support the efforts of the primary and secondary authorities to resolve major issues in our county and cooperation has already brought fruit to our islands.
