Bourbourelia is a custom of Kefalonia, the celebration takes place in the middle of the sowing season, which is why Panagia ton Eisodia is also called Mesosporitissa, day of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary (November 21).
A mixture of various local fruits, wheat, corn, beans, lentils, chickpeas, broad beans and peas.
It is a continuation of the ancient Greek custom of offering fruits to Dimitra so that next year will bring a good harvest !!
BOURBOURELIA OF KEFALONIA!
2 cups of brown beans
2 cups of brown black eyed beans
2 cups of brown chickpeas
2 cups of lentils
1 cup of wheat
1 onion oil, salt, pepper
We put our legumes in water all night
The next day we boil them in water for 5 minutes
Continuously drain, and fill in hot water
It’s starting to boil, empty the legumes, add an onion, salt
Pepper and boil for a couple of hours until they soften.
After serving on our plate, add the oil.
We accompany them with roasted herring, ideal!!!! But also with olives!!!!
