P. KAPPATOS (MP for kefallinia) – New aid of 2,500,000 euros for Kefalonia and Ithaca

With decisions of the last days from the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Development, our islands are strengthened with an additional 2,500,000 euros for the restoration of disasters from “Ianos”. The 1,700,000 concern the reinforcement of the Municipalities of our prefecture and the 800,000 are intended for the restoration of cultural monuments.

The effort to strengthen the municipalities of our prefecture continues, aiming at the fastest possible restoration of the disasters caused by “Ianos”.

2021 starts with a very positive development that gives us strength for the difficult continuation. With decisions of the services of the Ministry of Interior, a total of 1,700,000 euros were approved for the municipalities of our prefecture.

Specifically approved:

  • 500,000 euros for the Municipality of Argostoli
  • 500,000 euros for the Municipality of Lixouri
  • 500,000 euros for the Municipality of Sami
  • 200,000 euros for the Municipality of Ithaca

As part of the immediate response of the government, emergency aid was approved for the execution of projects related to the restoration and protection of cultural monuments of Kefalonia and Ithaca. For this reason, by decision of the Ministry of Development and Investment, an amount of 790,000 euros was approved for the execution of projects through the PDE by the Ephorate of Antiquities of Kefalonia and Ithaca.

The total amount of recent decisions amounts to 2,500,000 euros and is added to a series of previous relevant decisions to strengthen our prefecture by the Ministries:

  • Finance
  • Development & Investment
  • Infrastructure & Transport
  • Shipping & Island Policy
  • Interior

The response of the government at all levels proves the much improved performance of the state mechanism, in relation to similar natural disasters experienced by the citizens of our islands in the recent past.
