The epidemiological picture of Kefalonia for the week of January 17 to 23

Zero new cases of Covid-19 disease appeared in our Prefecture from 17 to 23 January. Consequently and always according to the official data of the National Organization of Public Health, Cephalonia from the beginning of the pandemic until today remains the safest epidemiological region of the country. As well as at the level of the last 7 days, together with the Prefectures of Evritania, Lefkada and Samos.

More specifically in our Prefecture, 70 cases have been officially confirmed, ranking it in absolute numbers in the penultimate position among the Prefectures of the country, behind only the smallest population Lefkada which remains at 50. In terms of cases per 100,000 inhabitants, however, which are the most Indicative and critical indicator for calculating the epidemiological burden of an area, Cephalonia remains in last place with 179 cases per 100,000 inhabitants or 1 per 558. In second place is the Prefecture of Lefkada with 211 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and in third place the Prefecture of Lassithi with 259 cases. The top five is completed by the Prefecture of Zakynthos with 270 and the Prefecture of Ilia with 305 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. On the contrary, the most epidemiologically burdened areas of Greece remain Pella with 3,075, Drama with 3,036,

In total, the confirmed cases of coronavirus in our country now amount to 151,646. Unfortunately, 5,622 of our fellow citizens have ended up, ie 3.7% of the sick, with a median age of 79 years. Finally, in the Intensive Care Units there are 292 intubated patients, 31 less than last Saturday.

The image of Cephalonia in the last week practically means that there was not the slightest burden on our viral load. On the contrary, nationally, the burden was of the order of 2.2% with 1,402 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, compared to 1,372 until Saturday, January 16. In total, the case index on our island is 7.8 times lower than the pan-Hellenic index, compared to 7.7 times in the previous 7 days.

At the level of the Ionian Islands Region since the beginning of the pandemic in March, 354 cases per 100,000 inhabitants have been identified with a total of 736 patients of the disease, of which 506 or 68.8% in Corfu. In fact, according to the report of the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) published on Thursday 21st of the month, our Region together with Epirus and the South Aegean remain the only “green” areas in the entire European Union.

Regarding the end of the development of the company “Eleftheria”, in P.E. Until yesterday, 773 citizens were vaccinated, corresponding to 2.16% of our population, behind only the Northern Sector of Athens with 3.80%, the Central Sector of Athens with 2.78%, Ioannina with 2.39% and Lassithi with 2.24%. Nationwide, the total number amounts to 157,388, corresponding to 1.46% of the population, while 154,273 people have been vaccinated with at least one dose of the vaccine.
