The new airport of Kefalonia is covid ready for passengers

Strict hygiene protocols for passengers and employees

The largest island in the Ionian Islands, with its unique blue-green waters, alternating mountain and sea landscape and hospitable inhabitants, has another reason this year to be considered an attractive destination, which is none other than its brand new airport.

The first picture that visitors to Kefalonia will see this year is completely different from what they were used to until today.

As part of the upgrade projects of the 14 regional airports implemented by Fraport Greece, the airport of Kefalonia “Anna Pollatou” acquires all the characteristics of a state-of-the-art airport with significant changes both abroad and indoors, which expanded by 10,700 sq.m. . At the same time, check-in points were increased by 70%, security and control points were doubled, a modern baggage control and management system was installed, and the total number of departure gates was doubled. Infrastructure projects also include the construction of a new sewage treatment plant, a new fire station and a new access control outlet in the area of aircraft activities.

COVID-19 protection measures

With a high sense of responsibility for the public health and well-being of travelers, airport employees adhere to all the recommendations of experts and authorities for the safety of the public.

Personal protective equipment has been provided and distributed to the personnel of the management company (masks, gloves, antiseptics, disposable robes, hats and goggles), while all visitors and employees must wear masks.
A sign has been placed in order to keep a distance of at least 1.5 meters for passengers waiting at both the checkpoint and the departure gates.
At the same time, in order to prevent passengers from using buses for boarding and disembarking, the walk in-walk out process is implemented as much as possible, ie passengers walk from the terminal to the aircraft and vice versa instead of going to and from them. by bus.

In addition, there have been designated accommodation for potential cases, as well as passenger accommodation for a possible flight.

At the same time, disinfection and thorough cleaning of all areas of the airport have been intensified.

These changes create a new experience within the airport with the aim of passenger safety, taking all those measures that shield public health as a safety net.

1st time in kefalonia was 1994, the airport building was tiny, you got your luggage from the back of a tractor! The island was magical, little traffic, the beaches were deserted, including Mirtos. The road from Argostoli to Assos & on to Fiskardo stunning. My favourite Greek island!
