The village of Livadi, Kefalonia, is located on the peninsula of Palliki, at the site of the homonymous wetland. It is a village with about 100 permanent residents, very close to Lixouri, the big city of the peninsula.
Near there were the rural prisons of the island, a place where prisoners had to work on a farm or generally produce public utility work. They functioned until the middle of the 20th century.

That is left of the prisons today. Unfortunately, in January 2014, the powerful earthquake on the island destroyed the remains of the building complex.

The earthquake of 1953, initially and after 2014, destroyed the foundations that it was left of rural prisons.

A very short distance from the coast and in the heart of Livadi has been a quarry for many years, where prisoners were working on forced labor.

The quarry of Livadi.

The mountain has been completely dug up.

According to a periodical of the period (“Echo” 1937 / pp. 9-11 / “Archaeologist”, archive of Sotiris Karavas) in July 1937 the imprisoned workers of the quarry came to a very important discovery which, while investigated by the archaeologists, today remains provocatively unknown.

Let’s read the description of the event through the article of the journal titled: “From the Mysteries of Archaeological Science – The Lixurian Leader”

“A remarkable archaeological discovery was recorded in the province of Lixouri, in the midst of the cynical burns, in July 1937. The discovery is surrounded by the mystery of terror, as the life of the mythical hero, whose fate was discovered:
The convicts of the Livadi prison were deeply involved in the quarries of the “Skabdolite” quarry, which, as it is known today, is traditionally considered to be the cradle of the marshmallows, the pagans and the other evil spirits.

An old map of Livadi indicating the position of Skabolitis that is mentioned in the article.

Satellite reception of Livadi today. The quarries as seen in connection with the old map excavate the small mountain named Kasteli. The site of Skadolititis coincides with the area where quarries and prisons are located.

Kasteli Hill and quarry. They always considered the article haunted by the article of that time.

It was noon, the sun occupied the universe, and all the living beings were hidden. The Earth is lit and the lighted atmosphere is enraged. Everything was frightened. It is, as it is known, the time, which, together with the midnight, recovers the dirty shadow on the Earth. The workers were weighed down, and they were punished with a slowness, and they made them fall. In short, they were confident that they were in front of a cavity, which echoed in the wake of the casamades. Deeply, within the solid rock, it was clearly discovered a short while in a tomb, which was mysteriously found there, among the huge and hard calcareous rhizomes of the mountain.

View of the quarries today.

We noticed some “strange cavities”. The position of the tomb remains unknown.

The grave was shaped like a cave-shaped cave, whose torsion was made of plaque. The convicts have stripped off the plaques, and then they have a new tremor that has captured their still damned souls. Their confusion was such that, unfortunately, we did not have precise descriptions of the spectacle that their eyes exposed. However, in the general lines we have a safe description of the interior of the tomb:
Inside, a man with a pedestrian skeleton, who, according to the accounts of the most trustworthy and most condemned of the convicts, was certainly at a height of 2½ feet. The impression was made especially by the thickness of the bones and the foal head of the deceased.
Around the skeleton, plenty of bones and teeth of sheep, pigs and calves were revealed. These were later perpetrated by the convicts as broken and stolen animals, which were sacrificed to the tomb of the dead giant, and probably their interpretation is correct.

Satellite view of the quarries. The hill obviously hid its secrets, how many hills to hide similar finds in their hearts?

Along the right hand of the skeleton was found a clay jug containing the raki, with which the dead lay in the dead. But the most important finding was a clay head, which, in a masterful way, portrays the features of the burial. He also found a coinage among the jaws of the dead, which he used to fill Haron, who would take to the hell the soul of the deceased.

These findings have always been transferred to the Museum of Argostoli. Experienced archaeologists, who, according to the characteristics of the pelvic head and the other descriptions of the convicts, recognized the fact that they were the originator of the ancient Lixurian ferries, who until then had been considered a mythical person. From the findings, the archaeologists say that it is a prehistoric era, and the absence of any metal in the tomb, apart from the coin described, led them to conclude that it was a “Pre-Mycenaean era,” about 1500-2000 years before Christ. The following text is a copy of the archaeological finds found in the Archaeological Museum of Argostoli. There is no record or description of bones.

N / A 1745 Glyfada Livadiou, was found by convicts of the prisons in a quarry on 15 June 1937 together with the following number of worn-out coins.
Arrival of simple clay in the shape of a denigrator’s head of a stigma slave. He stairs, his mouth wide and oblique, oblique and fast, narrow, narrow, grooved and staggered. Genus, cheek and head withered, too small to the back of the skull. On the top of the head, the mouth of the rabbit with two holes to be suspended. Conservation very good. (height 0.11 – from second record book)
N / A Proportions from simple porous and impervious clay. Body cylindroid, round lips half incomplete. Lace slightly engraved in the middle of the abdomen and the shoulder base. Two holes of damage. (0.175 – from second record book)

What we have read in an article in IHHO magazine is proof that the important findings concerning giant skeletons are thoroughly hidden.
One can easily imagine how important these findings are when talking about a pre-Mycenaean era! Of course, the discovery makes it special that it is Lixouro, the Lixorian leader and mythical face. We point out the closure of the Argostoli Museum for four whole years which is supposed to be responsible for these findings. The above research does not make any definitive conclusions about the location of the IHHO quarry, but reasonable conclusions. The final judgment as always yours.
