Following yesterday’s lively debate on the Social Media Facebook group ‘Kefalonia Unplugged’ regarding this article we reproduced about “Kefalonia being too dependent on British tourists”, today some figures have been issued providing some statistical analysis forthe month of May 2019.
The headines are as follows;
People – 41,032 arrived versus 41,878 in May 2018 (846 less tourists)
Planes – 543 planes landed up 33 from 2018
Breakdown of nationaliies – British 31, 219 opposed to 33,185
German 5,124 opposed to 2,068
Dutch 1,849 opposed to 2,338
Italy 1,243 opposed to 1,369
Poland 1,033 opposed to 1,385
Sweden 0 opposed to 1014.
- It would appear from these figures there has been a statistically signficant decrease in numbers from the UK which has only not resulted in a major drop in overall numbers to Kefalonia beacuase the German market has increased signifcantly.
- More planes are arriving with less people on them, this is worrying because airlines will cut back on flight numbers should this continue.
It should be further noted these are figures for airport arrivals only and don’t take into consideration ferry or cruise boat arrivals, but as the cruise boat customers really only spend in their short time here in Argostoli, the caves and Fiskardo therefore they don’t really put much into the other resorts of the island.
We look forward to the June figures and hope for an improvement.
