Traffic ban – Text before you drive – announcement due this evening

Announcing the complete restriction of citizens’ traffic, the operation of banks with security personnel and the submission of SMSs (mobile messages) to a specific number where they will declare – through a special form – where they will go, will be announced tonight by Deputy Minister of Civil Protection Mr. Nikos Chardalia, according to a report published by in.gr.

Specifically, as stated in the report:

It is an SMS submission system with specific options (job search, supermarket, pharmacy etc.) that was developed in secret by the Ministry of Digital Governance.

The number will be according to information 13033 indicating the name and statement of the applicant for the purpose of moving them. If you are going to work, for essentials or the pharmacy. Each moving object will have a code where it will be typed.
The government’s goal is thus to stop the unjustified movements and exits of citizens that have existed in recent days.

Of course, there should be clarification as to the movements that can be made. E.g. whether it is forbidden to take a short walk or drive to a specific destination in addition to the above. And the questions are a lot about everyday habits. E.g. about whether one can go to their parents’ home or see their children or take their dog for a walk. The above model is used in France by submitting an email where the purpose of the move is mentioned.

“The prime minister is informed and decides,” government spokesman Stelios Petsas told SKAI, adding that the government is assessing the data every day “and we are ready to take whatever measures are needed”.

Asked about the ban on people over 65, he said there are many decisions being implemented in different countries we may follow.
