These are the projects: “Construction of Tri bridges – Vryoni” in Corfu and “Construction of the Airport-Krania Road” in Kefalonia
Two very important road projects were included in the OP. “Ionian Islands 2014-2020” by decision of the Ionian Islands Regional Director Th. Galiatsatos. These are the projects “Construction of Three Bridges in Breeze in Corfu” and “Construction of the Airport-Krania road axis in Kefalonia”.
The “Construction of Three Bridges-Vryonis Street in Corfu” project includes the construction of a 2.8 km long road axis and three level nodes. The new highway will bypass the existing National Road “Corfu-Gyrou Achilleion” from the intersection “Three Bridges” to the “Vryonis” area. It includes the improvement of a section of the existing Achilliou Roundabout, bypassing a new route from the level of the Canalo node to the node Vryonis.
The cost of the project amounts to € 28,052,240.73 and is expected to be completed by 31/12/2023.
The construction of the road will provide a solution to the acute traffic problem in the area, by reducing the transit times to and from the island’s entry gates as well as the cost of travel while improving road safety.
The project “Construction of the Airport-Krania road axis in Kefalonia”. concerns the construction of a new road link connecting Kefalonia Airport with the provincial road Argostoli – Poros – Skala in its section, in the Krania area, with a total length of about 6 km to serve the traffic load to and from the Airport. Also the new road will connect three existing provincial streets, the provincial road no. 6 (Argostoli – Airport), no. 3 (Argostoli – Lakithra) and the no. 1 (Argostoli – Poros).
The project will contribute to the rapid disembarkation of the city of Argostoli and Argostoli – Lassi – Airport, which passes through a busy, residential area. It will also offer immediate and better access to the rest of the main road network of the island of Kefalonia.
The cost of the project is € 8,355,600.00 and is expected to be completed by 31/12/2023.
The above two projects are part of Priority Axis 3 – “Strengthening Transport Infrastructure” of OP. Ionian Islands 2014-2020 and co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
