Their vaccination will start on February 15. While, as it was underlined, vaccination centers will be opened in which only AstraZeneca vaccines will be given.

As for the age group 70-79, the platform will open on Friday, February 12 and vaccinations will begin on February 15, as Deputy Government Spokeswoman Aristotle Peloni had announced earlier in the briefing . Marios Themistokleous announced that additional centers will be inaugurated in Athens and Thessaloniki that will support these appointments.

“We received the first installments from AstraZeneca”
The general secretary of Primary Health Care, Marios Themistokleous, announced today that yesterday, Sunday, the first 40,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine were received. While, the vaccination coverage in the country now amounts to 4.9%. To date, 410,000 citizens in Greece have been vaccinated.

Mr. Themistocleous also stressed that after the vaccination of people aged 60-64 years with the AstraZeneca vaccine, the platform will be opened for appointments of citizens aged 18 to 60 years with underlying patients, in order to be vaccinated.

Answering a question about the possibility of the need for a third dose of vaccine in the fall, in order to deal with the mutations, Maria Theodoridou noted that for the time being all this is in the realm of fantasy. The chairwoman of the vaccination committee noted that the data are observed and in case a decrease in antibodies is found, something like this may be suggested.

In addition, the chair of the vaccination committee noted that the pharmaceutical industry is investigating the possibility of creating multivalent vaccines or a combination of such vaccines to treat the mutations, if necessary. Ms. Theodoridou stressed, however, that all this is still at the level of theoretical discussion.
