The earthquakes of 53 that struck Kefalonia, Zakynthos and Ithaca, literally flattened all three islands.

The first earthquake occurred on 9 August, centered on the Ithaca Cross, and was 6.4 Richter. 

This earthquake has caused disasters in homes in Ithaca and Kefalonia, and there have been several injured.

On August 11, the second major 6.8 magnitude earthquake , with a focus on the northwest of Zakynthos , was noted .

Ten aftershocks occurred on the same day, with the largest ones being 5.3 and 5.1 Richter. Major disasters have been caused in Sami, Argostoli, Lixouri and Zakynthos.

On Aug. 12, the most earthquake in the history of Kefalonia , the 7.2 Richter , centered on southeastern Kefalonia , came . 

Kefalonia, Zakynthos and Ithaca, which had already suffered serious damage from the previous earthquakes, and with the latter were almost flattened.

The earthquake has lowered the cities of Argostoli, Lixouri and Zakynthos. Indeed, he raised Kefalonia by 60 centimeters. In the city of Zakynthos the catastrophe completed a great fire which followed the earthquake and lasted for several days.

The total number of deaths from earthquakes amounted to 455 , missing 21 and injured at 2,412.

The earthquakes flattened almost totally all three islands. Of the 33,300 homes in Zakynthos, Ithaca and Kefalonia, 27,659 were completely destroyed, 33,000 buildings collapsed, while only 467 buildings survived mainly in the area of ​​Erisos in Kefalonia.

Only two houses survived in Argostoli, while few were the buildings that were saved in Lixouri. Disasters were also caused in Lefkada and Ilia.
