Weather: Extraordinary bulletin from HNMS – Rain, storms and snow are coming

A new wave of bad weather will “hit” all of Greece in the coming days. And the weather is so bad that HNMS has already issued an emergency bulletin, warning of rain, storms, snow and a drop in temperature of up to seven degrees, from Wednesday! 

The weather will deteriorate from tomorrow Tuesday (22.02.2022), according to the emergency bulletin of EMY. The bad weather will last for 48 hours, with the main feature being the rains and the storms. Seven areas will be hit hardest, according to EMY. 

The bad weather will start tomorrow morning from the Ionian islands, Epirus and western Sterea, then the phenomena will affect the western Peloponnese and early in the afternoon Thessaly, Sporades, western and central Macedonia. 

From Tuesday night, Thrace and eastern Macedonia will be affected and from Wednesday the weather will be bad in central and northern Evia, the Cyclades, Crete and the Dodecanese. 

The emergency weather report from HNMS

Deterioration from the northwest to the southeast is forecast to present the weather in our country from Tuesday 22-02-2022 to the afternoon of Thursday 24-02-2022 with the main feature of the locally heavy rains and thunderstorms.

Heavy rains and thunderstorms will occur in places :

a. In the Ionian Islands, Epirus and western Sterea on Tuesday from morning until afternoon.

b. In the western Peloponnese during the noon and afternoon hours of Tuesday.

c. In Thessaly and the Sporades from early Tuesday afternoon until Wednesday morning.

d. In western and central Macedonia from Tuesday afternoon until early Wednesday morning.

e. In Thrace and eastern Macedonia on the night Tuesday to Wednesday.

f. In central and northern Evia from the morning until the afternoon of Wednesday.

g. In the Cyclades, Crete and the Dodecanese from the pre-noon hours of Wednesday to noon on Thursday.

Furthermore:

  1. Heavy snowfall in places will occur from the afternoon of Tuesday until the early hours of Wednesday in western Macedonia and in the mountainous – semi-mountainous areas of Epirus, central Macedonia and Thessaly.
  2. On Wednesday, northerly winds of 8 Beaufort will prevail in the Ionian Sea from the beginning of the day and in the Aegean from noon. On Thursday the north winds will gradually weaken in the Ionian while in the Aegean they will temporarily reach 9 Beaufort in places.
  3. The temperature on Wednesday will drop by 5 to 7 degrees Celsius, mainly in the east.
