Which areas are candidates for the creation of new centers for hosting immigrants?

The government is at the bottom line for the selection of the 10 closed migrant centers. That is why a meeting was held yesterday at the Ministry of Interior on the initiative of Maximos the Great.

The meeting was convened by State Minister George Gerapetritis and Deputy Prime Minister Akis Schertzos and is attended by Citizens’ Defense Ministers Michalis Chrysochoidis and Interior Minister Takis Theodivikos Aphimikis Aphimikos Aphidikos and Deputy Minister. The purpose of the meeting was to inform the MPs of the regions, where, according to the government plan, refugees will be relocated to closed accommodation centers. At the meeting, therefore, 30 members of the Northern Aegean and Dodecanese have been invited to operate the closed-type centers by July.

There has been a backlash between MPs and the opposition, as they are being pressured by their constituents and the right-wing MPs.

At the same time today, at 12 noon, Messrs. Gerapetritis, Schertzos, Theodorikakos, Chrysochoidis and Stephanis meet with regional governors and mayors of the candidate areas.

It is recalled that the design provides:

Lesvos: In Lesvos, the existing Structure in Moria will be gradually closed, and a new closed Structure will be created, which will be used as a Pre-Concession Center and Reception and Identification Center (TSD), with a capacity of: 5,000+.

Chios: In Chios, the existing Structure at Vial will be closed (near Chalkio), while a new closed Structure will be created, which will be used as a Pre-Departure Center and Reception and Identification Center (TSD), with a capacity of: 5,000+.

Samos: In Samos, the existing Structure – CMT will be closed in Vathi, while the Structure under construction will be expanded and used as a Pre-Concession Center and Reception and Identification Center (CMT), with a capacity of: 5,000+.

Kos: In Kos, the existing Structure will be transformed into a Closed, as a Pre-Concession Center and Reception and Identification Center (CSF), with a capacity of: 2,000+.

Leros: At LERO, the existing Structure will be transformed to a Closed, as a Pre-Departure Center and Reception and Identification Center (CTP), with a capacity of: 1,000+.

New hosting centers

In addition to the closed centers, about ten controlled structures will be set up in the inland except for the Ionians (to avoid the risk of… escaping to Italy) and, of course, except for the North Aegean and Dodecanese where the five closed centers will be.

By the beginning of November, at least 15,000 refugees  and migrants from the stranded islands will be transferred to new accommodation centers  .

The quota of refugees and immigrants has changed a lot, as only 2 out of 10 are refugees and the rest are economic  migrants .

For the latter, and in order to complete the identification procedures and to accelerate redirection, transfer to  closed pre-departure centers is envisaged.

The new candidate centers are in the following closed or inactive  camps :

Artillery Thebes
Engineering Nafplio
Infantry Regiment in Kalamata
Infantry Battalion in Rethymno
Constitution Evzoni Missolonghi
1st Infantry Regiment
own in Tripoli
Sanitary Arta
Sparta Supply-Transport
Motorized Infantry Battalion in Grevena
Ordnance Lamia
interdisciplinary center in Tripoli

The centers of Sparta and Nafplio are by far the dominant ones.

Inland structures will be controlled (that is, immigrants will have the right to leave but will return at a specific time and if they violate the terms will be transferred to one of the five closed structures) and not closed, because the creation of closed centers inland is opposed to EU-Turkey agreement. Closed will be given all the functions of the hotspot ie there will be registration and identification and this will be another difference with the controlled structures.
